Pensioners may find themselves in a situation where they need to return part of the pension they received in excess. Such situations arise when the amount of the payment exceeds the defined norms, but the Pension Fund was not informed about this in Time.

Representatives of the Pension Fund explained who needs to return money if an overpayment situation arose from July this year.

Situations when pension must be returned

It is necessary to return money if there have been changes in a person's life that affected the amount of pension payments. Such changes may be related to a change of residence, dismissal from work, starting to work in a profession after retirement, changes in social status, and other circumstances.

The pensioner must inform the Pension Fund about such changes within 10 days to avoid overpayment. This can be done either online or in person at the PFU service center.

Consequences of untimely notification

If the pensioner does not inform the Pension Fund about the changes and it turns out that he received an overpayment, he will need to return the excess funds. This can be done voluntarily. In case of refusal, the Pension Fund can go to court to recover the debt, withholding up to 20% of the pensioner's pension.

It is worth noting that social benefits for pensioners in Ukraine are important for their financial condition and support in daily life. These benefits include, for example, in public transport.

Currently, the possibility of raising the retirement age is being considered in the Verkhovna Rada, which may affect further changes in the country's pension legislation.
