Explosions in Russia and strikes on Kharkiv and Zaporizhia. Main news for April 22.


Ukraine must agree to the conditions set by Russia for direct negotiations between the two countries. This was reported by Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov. One of the conditions is likely the lifting of the ban on negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, imposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2022.
According to Peskov, Russia is ready for negotiations, as evidenced by the consideration of a moratorium on strikes against civilian infrastructure.
An explosion occurred in Russia at one of the largest ammunition depots near the village of Barsovo in the Vladimir region. The 51st arsenal of the Main Directorate of Rocket and Artillery Arms of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation is located there.
A large fire broke out in St. Petersburg in the Shushary area. The incident occurred near Novgorodsky Avenue or at a warehouse on Diesel Passage. Details concerning the injured are currently unknown.
In Zaporizhia, Russian troops shelled a high-rise building. As a result of this incident, there is one dead and several injured, including children. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to Russia's attacks on the cities of Kharkiv, Odesa, and Zaporizhia. He noted that rescue operations are ongoing in Kharkiv following the strike by Russian drones, and several areas of Kharkiv have been set on fire. Furthermore, airstrikes were registered in Zaporizhia, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk region, and other areas of the country.
Zelensky addressed Russia with a request to be seriously prepared for negotiations regarding a ceasefire concerning civilian objects. He emphasized that Ukraine proposed to extend the truce after Easter and make it full.
The President of Ukraine met with members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations. He expressed condolences over the death of Pope Francis and thanked the clergy for their support and prayers during the war.
The court imposed a preventive measure on the Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Volodymyr Prokopiv - house arrest for two months. Prokopiv will wear an electronic bracelet. Members of parliament who wanted to stand surety for him were denied.
