In Ukraine, cucumber prices break records: why is the popular vegetable becoming more expensive.

Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine continue to rise. As of October 11, 2024, the cost of cucumbers reached 50-65 UAH/kg ($1.21-1.58/kg), which is on average 11% higher than at the end of last week.
This is reported by EastFruit.
The main reasons for the price increase, according to analysts, are the reduction of supply due to unstable harvesting in greenhouses and high demand. Deteriorating weather conditions have led to a decrease in yields both in stationary complexes and film greenhouses.
The lack of competition from imported products also contributes to the increase in prices for local vegetables. However, market participants warn that further price increases could lead to a sharp increase in the supply of imported cucumbers.
It should be noted that current cucumber prices in Ukraine are at the level of 2022 and 2023. However, the anticipated decrease in average daily air temperatures may affect the cost of greenhouse vegetable production, as producers are forced to use additional heating.
In addition, potato prices in Ukraine are already three times higher than last year.
