A farewell ceremony was held in Kyiv for the warrior of the International Legion of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Dominik Abelen, known as 'Tolkien'. According to the report from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on Facebook, the 28-year-old soldier was a citizen of New Zealand, a representative of the Maori people, and was awarded for his combat merits.
Dominik Abelen died on August 23, 2022, in the area of Vuhledar during combat operations. His body was successfully returned to Ukraine, where it was honored with military honors. In his memory, comrades performed the Maori ritual dance.
'Our condolences to the family of Dominik Abelen. The Ukrainian nation will always remember the deed of the proud son of the Maori people - a true warrior, man, hero of Ukraine and New Zealand', the message from the GUR states.
Also, sculptor and defender Taras Shevchenko and doctor Volodymyr Volikov died at the front.
