ISW assessed whether the Russians have enough strength to oust the AFU from the Kursk region.

Analysts studied the power situation in the Kursk region and expressed their opinion on the possibility of ousting the Armed Forces of Ukraine from this region.
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Russian army will need a significant increase in the grouping for a successful counteroffensive.
Analysts note that the Russian command has already significantly increased its forces in the Kursk region, capturing some settlements in the area.
According to President Zelensky's statement, 40 thousand servicemen are concentrated in the Kursk region, with plans to increase to 70 thousand.
Analysts added that the Russian military command has deployed about 61 units of various sizes, in which approximately 35,000 servicemen serve. However, it is unknown how much personnel other Russian power structures have.
ISW believes that the increase in the number of Russian groups indicates that pressure from Ukrainian forces has forced Russia to redeploy its units to the Kursk region instead of the front in Ukraine.
In their opinion, a counteroffensive in this area will require more personnel and resources than are deployed in the Kursk region, so additional redeployment of troops from Ukraine is needed.
Data from the analysis of the military situation in the Kursk region was published by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
