EU Reaction
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen commented on Trump's decision regarding the introduction of tariffs. According to her, this will harm businesses and consumers on both sides of the Atlantic.
'We will continue working on the agreement until August 1. At the same Time, we are ready to defend the interests of the EU through appropriate countermeasures,'- her statement said.
Trump noted that starting August 1, the tariffs on goods from the EU and Mexico that are imported to the USA will be 30%. 'Our relations, unfortunately, have been far from equal. Starting from August 1, 2025, we are imposing a 30% tariff on EU products imported to the USA', - he wrote in a letter to the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
Let us remind you that earlier EU countries sought to conclude a trade agreement with America.
The tariffs imposed by the USA on goods from the EU and Mexico may affect international trade and economic relations between these countries. The European Union's reaction to these measures also indicates potential problems that may arise in international cooperation due to the introduction of new tariffs.
