The Trump Administration Appeals to the Supreme Court Regarding DOGE

The administration of President Donald Trump has appealed to the Supreme Court of the United States, requesting to halt the judge's decision regarding the response to the oversight group's inquiry and the provision of documents about Elon Musk's Government Efficiency Department. The Department of Justice is challenging the ruling concerning the enforcement of the CREW organization's requirements for information about the structure and activities of the department.

Judge Christopher Cooper previously established that CREW can prove that DOGE falls under the Freedom of Information Act. Thus, the government was supposed to start responding to the inquiries about DOGE. However, the administration believes that DOGE, created for Musk's project, does not fall under the public document law.

General Counsel D. John Sauer believes that the decision regarding the disclosure of information about DOGE violates the principles of separation of powers and threatens the confidentiality of advice.

Judge Cooper allowed CREW to obtain information about DOGE teams in other U.S. agencies and the role of staff in federal spending recommendations. The appeals court disagreed with the administration's refusal to argue about the separation of powers, pointing out the lack of justification for the claims.

The DOGE office failed to specify why access to the documents constitutes a burden, as confirmed by the appellate court judges. The case is ongoing, and the administration continues to fight against the disclosure of information about DOGE's activities.
