He died in battle, defending his homeland from the occupiers,” - wrote the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his condolences to the pilot's family and comrades. He also demands a report from the military regarding the combat situation and the full circumstances of the event.
“Ukrainian F-16s, Mirage fighters, MiGs, and other aircraft are heroically fulfilling their tasks, protecting our country and supporting ground operations. The Air Force also provides protection to Ukraine from Russian missiles and drones. We are proud of our military. Let us respond strongly and accurately. Glory to Ukraine!” - wrote Zelensky.
The investigation into the F-16 fighter jet crash that occurred on August 26, 2024, resulting in the death of pilot Oleksii “Moonfish” Mesya, is still ongoing. According to the State Bureau of Investigations, 11 expert examinations are being conducted, including engineering, military, forensic medical, computer-technical, and commodity examinations. Final conclusions regarding the causes of the crash and possible liability of officials will be made after the completion of all examinations and analysis of evidence.
