The White Paper on European Defense will be presented by European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius
The first European Commissioner for Defense and Space in the history of the EU, Andrius Kubilius, will present the White Paper on European Defense, which will outline the main priorities for strengthening security in the European region, within the first 100 days of his work.
This was stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during the presentation of the new composition of the European Commission for approval by the Members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, as reported by Ukrinform.
'Andrius Kubilius will be the first Commissioner for Defense of the EU. We do not have Time to waste. We will get the White Paper on the future of European defense within the first 100 days. I can assure you that the security of Europe will always be a priority for this European Commission,' emphasized von der Leyen.
The President of the European Commission reminded that a war is ongoing on the borders of Europe, therefore the European region must be prepared for any challenges and cooperate with NATO.
'We know that as Europeans, we must do more together. One indicator speaks for itself: Russia allocates 9% of GDP for defense, while the average spending in Europe is 1.9%. This is the wrong ratio. Our defense expenditures must increase. We need a common market for defense, we must strengthen our defense industry,' emphasized the President of the European Commission.
