NATO strengthens airspace monitoring in Romania: reason.


From September 29, NATO has enhanced surveillance of Romanian airspace due to the fall of Russian drones. This was reported by the NATO Air Force Joint Command.
In coordination with the Romanian military leadership, NATO on September 29, 2024, began additional surveillance flights equipped with the Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) over Romania
The aircraft track Russian military activity near Romania's borders and ensure its ability to respond to air threats.
The flights will be carried out over Alliance territory from the Preveza airbase in Greece and NATO's main AWACS base in Geilenkirchen, Germany
On September 24, drone debris was discovered on Romanian territory opposite Ukrainian Izmail. This was reported by the Romanian Ministry of Defense. The military were surveying the area for possible drone fragments that might have fallen during Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports on the Danube.
Earlier, Ukraine asked Romania to shoot down Russian drones that fly into its territory during attacks from the Russian Federation.
Romania intends to accelerate the procurement of ammunition in response to Russia's prolonged aggression against Ukraine. This decision was made by the Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT) under the chairmanship of President Klaus Iohannis.
