The Austrian Ministry of the Interior investigates a large-scale Russian disinformation campaign against Ukraine.

Austrian law enforcement is investigating disinformation from Russia
The Austrian Ministry of the Interior reported, in response to journalists' inquiries, about the continuation of the investigation into a large-scale disinformation campaign in the interests of Russia and to the detriment of Ukraine. Details regarding this campaign are not disclosed due to the ongoing investigation process.
“The State Protection and Intelligence Agency (DSN) has informed the media in detail and as transparently as possible about the investigation into the espionage case related to the large-scale Russian disinformation campaign…”
Journalists also inquired with the ministry about 'offline actions' carried out by Russian agents as part of the disinformation campaign. For instance, an event from May 2022, when unknown individuals painted a sign on a wall in Vienna, was part of this campaign. The Russian embassy in Austria used this incident to make claims about 'Ukrainian radicals.'
The investigation into disinformation suggests that the influence of information can have serious consequences and a negative impact on relations between countries, causing international conflicts and intercultural misunderstandings. Therefore, it is important to identify and stop such actions in a timely manner.
