The International Monetary Fund has updated its forecast for global economic growth. According to the new predictions, GDP growth will decrease from 3.3% in 2024 to 2.8% in 2025 and to 3% in 2026.

According to the document published on April 22, the deterioration of the forecast is linked to changes in government priorities worldwide. This information is reported by 'Interfax-Ukraine'.

The forecast indicates the consequences of new tariff measures announced and implemented by the United States, as well as retaliatory measures from other countries, which have affected economic growth forecasts.

In developed economies, growth is expected to be 1.4% in 2025. The United States is also expected to slow down to 1.8%, which is 0.9% lower than the January forecast. This is explained by political uncertainty, trade tensions, and a decrease in consumer demand. Growth in the eurozone is expected to be at 0.8%, which is 0.2% lower than previous estimates.

Regarding Ukraine, the IMF has confirmed a GDP growth forecast of 2% for the current year and 4.5% for the next year.

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva stated that the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration create uncertainty and undermine consumer and investor confidence, but will not cause a recession in the short term.
