Kyiv Will Switch Traffic Lights to a New Mode in Case of Blackout.

Kyiv is Upgrading Traffic Light System
Kyiv is undergoing a modernization of its traffic system. The city authorities are actively installing traffic lights with backup power sources, allowing them to operate during power outages. Currently, 145 traffic lights in Kyiv are equipped with such systems.
Yakubovsky, the head of the traffic automation department at the KP 'Center for Traffic Management', discussed this on the Kyiv24 channel.
According to him, the enterprise is purchasing and installing backup power cabinets that ensure the operation of traffic lights for up to 24 hours. The duration of autonomous operation depends on the complexity of the site and the amount of equipment.
Currently, 107 backup power cabinets have been installed, providing operation for 145 traffic lights. This is a significant step towards ensuring traffic safety in case of potential power disruptions.
The city authorities plan to install about 300 more backup power cabinets, which are at various stages of procurement. They are expected to be installed shortly. Covering all 738 traffic lights in Kyiv will require approximately 500-550 cabinets, considering that one cabinet can power several objects simultaneously.
Earlier, Kyivstar, Vodafone, and lifecell announced their readiness to operate without electricity.
