India intends to reclaim its place among the world's best tourist countries.

India plans to become a top-10 tourist destination in the world
India aims to secure a place in the top ten most popular tourist destinations in the world within the next five years. This was announced by India's Minister of Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh.
According to him, the country is already growing in the global tourist market.
Currently, India ranks 39th among 119 countries in terms of popularity among tourists, but the Indian government is confident that the country will soon rise in the rankings. Tourism currently contributes 7.9% to India's gross domestic product, while the global average is 10.4%. The Minister is confident that India can surpass the global level and contribute 10% or more.
The main focus will be on developing less known regions of India that have not been as popular among foreign visitors. Currently, most tourists visit only 9 out of 28 states in India and the National Capital Territory of Delhi, which account for 65% of visits. However, recent years have shown increased interest in less known regions, which is a positive trend for the tourism industry.
Additionally, Indian culture and cuisine are drawing significant interest. Internet searches related to these topics have increased by 48% since 2019. This indicates a growing international interest in India as a tourist destination.
The development of the middle class and affordable flights encourage Indian residents to travel more and spend more money on travel. The country's economic growth is leading to reduced poverty and increased domestic trips. It is projected that by 2025, Indians' overseas spending will reach $45 billion.
