Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked Russian airfields
On the night of August 14-15, 2024, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully attacked four military airfields in the Russian Federation. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, with the joint efforts of the Air Force, Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the airfields "Khalino", "Savasliyka", "Borisoglebsk", and "Baltimore" located in the Voronezh, Kursk, and Nizhny Novgorod regions of the Russian Federation were damaged.
These airfields are home to a significant part of the Russian military aviation, including Su-34 fighter-bombers and Su-35 fighters. The main targets of the attack were storage facilities for fuel and lubricants and aviation weapons.
Radio Liberty, citing satellite images from Planet Labs, confirms that several hangars in the northwest part of the "Borisoglebsk" airfield have been destroyed, where the technical operational part for the repair and maintenance of aircraft is located.
According to Defence Express, warehouses with special T-6 fuel for MiG-31K could have been damaged at the "Savaslayka" airfield, located 650 km from the Ukrainian border. The NASA satellite service recorded a powerful fire in the area of storage of fuel and lubricants.
Sources in the Security Service of Ukraine called this operation the largest attack on Russian military airfields during the entire war. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasizes that the results of the attack are being clarified and that the joint work of all components of the defense forces continues.
