Dozens of people have died in Congo from an unknown disease – WHO.

More than 400 cases of an unknown disease, which has led to the deaths of more than 30 people, have been reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo over the past month. This is reported by Blue News, citing the World Health Organization. Symptoms of the disease include cough and headache.

According to the WHO, 406 cases of the unknown disease have been registered in the Pangi area of Kwango province from October 24 to December 5 of this year. The disease is accompanied by fever, headache, cough, malaise, and body aches.

According to WHO reports, the disease can lead to severe exhaustion in serious cases. In total, 31 people have died from this disease.

The majority of the sick are children under five years old. However, access to the Pangi area is complicated due to the rainy season. A trip from Kinshasa takes about 48 hours, and proper diagnostics in the region are hindered by inadequacy.

Spread of monkeypox on the African continent

Monkeypox is spreading on the African continent - this is reported by the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). According to US News & World Report, WHO declared monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern in August of this year when a new strain of the disease spread from Congo to neighboring countries.
