Austria Changes Rules for Ukrainians: Who Among Refugees is Excluded from Health Insurance.

From June 1, Ukrainians in Austria who are unemployed have lost their right to health insurance. This new regulation came into effect at the end of May, but there is a transition period until July 12 for people to find a job or receive assistance.
After the end of the grace period, health insurance will only remain for Ukrainians with official employment or basic assistance.
This change also affects inactive Ukrainians who do not receive social assistance and have their own savings. This is one of the steps in adapting the social system to the conditions of the prolonged stay of refugees from Ukraine in Austria.
The Austrian government is also considering the possibility of amending EU asylum legislation, as the current rules are considered outdated. Moreover, the Minister of Defense does not rule out the possibility of Austrian troops participating in peacekeeping operations in Ukraine.
Changes in the health insurance system for unemployed Ukrainians in Austria are part of a broader process of adapting social programs to the refugee situation and potential changes in EU legislation regarding asylum provision.
